Jojoba oil benefits

Jojoba oil is derived from the seeds of a desert plant. The Latin name for this plant is Simmondsia chinensis. The plant grows well in northern Mexico and southern California and Arizona. Each seed contains 50% oil making up half of its weight. When the ban was passed on the use of whale oil, jojoba became a cheaper alternative. This oil is popularly used in cosmetic products such as lotions, shampoos and conditioner.

The unrefined oil has a nutty odor and clear, golden color. Once the oil has been processed it becomes odorless and loses its natural color. Since jojoba does not contain tryglycerides it has a longer shelf life than most oils derived from plants. The oil is hardly ever sold in its natural state but is almost always processed first.

Jojoba oil is a great way to keep your hair and skin looking their best. Since the oil is similar to the natural oil our bodies produce it works to hydrate and soften skin. The oil can be applied by itself or mixed with other essential oils to make a homemade massage oil or lotion. The oil absorbs into the skin quickly with no sticky residue. This oil is one that is used often as a carrier oil in skin care and aromatherapy products.

Many hair products contain the oil also. Jojoba replenishes the hair follicles leaving hair fuller and more manageable. The oil helps to prevent split ends and control breakage. Another use is to apply the oil directly to the scalp to help with thinning hair. Jojoba works to unclog the hair follicles so that new hair can grow in.

Jojoba also contains a fungicide. This property makes it a great additive in homemade cleaners. The oil will work to eliminate mold and mildew especially in the bathroom. The oil is referred to by many as Nature’s multi-tasker and as you can see it has many beneficial uses.

Jojoba oil benefits us in so many ways, Jojoba oil for hair and skin is an excellent choice for dry skin and brittle hair.
